The Woman That Almost Ended Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Jr's life gave him many brushes with death even before his assassination. One such brush was when a paranoid schizophrenic with a diminished IQ attempted to end his life. That woman was Izola Curry who had come to believe that MLK and the NAACP were stalking her and leading a nationwide boycott on her that left her unemployed. King's life was saved that day by innocent bystanders who stepped in as well as two police officers who were near the scene.

Once officer was Al Howard who would later game further recognition as part of the team that stopped serial killer David Berkowitz who was known as The Son of Sam. Through interrogation and trial it would become clear that Izola Curry actually had only the slightest idea of who Martin Luther King Jr was; even believing his name had been Arthur King.

"History is written by the winners," is a phrase that is often repeated. However, it's not true. More often than not the losers write history. What we're left with is a sterilized view of history that does a great disservice to us all. These retellings are often filled with outright lies such as a George Washington's wooden teeth or are told in a way that would make the average person view it as too complicated. I'm here because history doesn't need to complicated, but it needs to be told, and told truthfully.

The purpose of Ultra Black History is to look at history from a decolonized point of view and provide the world with that information.
