For the better part of the last decade, Nanatsu no Taizai, also known as Seven Deadly Sins, was a a great series. At one point, people would gather on multiple sites on the internet to discuss how great the chapters were. Towards the end of the decade, the series bcame an after thought. I personally did not care to continue after Merlin was revealed to be the daugthter of the Demon King. Anyway, fuck this series. Here's why it eventually became trash.
Mediocre MC
I could honestly say that Meliodas and Elizabeth's relation cememted NNT as the greatest action romance. As the series went on, I genuinely wanted Meliodas to die. He was always a bland character but the supporting cast was aboelt o hide that. Despite being the main character, the series ficused a good amount of attention on the other characters. Its still one of the few series that did that well. Once MEliodas was the focal point, things did start to slow down. The best thing to happen to him was getting jumped by the Commandments and being killed. After that his character became so boring as the series dragged towards the end. Despite being in some of the best moments, panels and fights in the series, he's not a main character that I'll remember as a good character in general.
Lame Gallery of Villains
There is not one good villain in the series. Hendricksen was a set up villain that served his purpose but not anything special. The Commandments were there just to fight. They had no motives but fighting. Normally I wouldn't mind a character that's evil just to be evil but not 10 of the last crucial villains. Gallant was cool, he's the only one that gets a pass. Drole and Gloxina were just hanging around despite having a good amount of screen time. Monspeet and Derieri were a cool dynamic that did deserve more time. Estarossa was cool but quickly became garbage which also plays into the next point that I', going to make. Zeldris was cool but I don't remember much as by the time he got spotlight I was turning away from the series. I don't even know who the main villain was casue I stopped reading. The point is, they all suck. They exist simply to exist but don't serve a purpose despite to be a wall in front of the protagonist. Not even a good wall. Just a thin sheet that Kyles can punch through.
Too Many Plot Twists
Once uipon a time ago the story was the most interesting in Manga. Then it became one cluster fuck. The plot was very simple. Lets reunite the Seven Deadly Sins to save the lands. Then it became the stopping of the 10 Commandments rampgage. Then other shit happened and these people were fighting just to fight. Estarossa isn't who he really is, Merlin is the most broken character in existence, and why the fuck is Elaine still alive at the end? This man Suzuki send you on a never ending rollercoaster that doesn't even give you a stomache. He's waisting our time.
Mediorcre Supporting Cast
I really loved the cast at one point. Once the Commandments came in I truly started to despise everyone in this series.
Terrible Power Scaling
The commandments were way too strong. Hendricksen was strong but damn. At least they still had a chance with him. The Commandments thiugh, even if you gang up on them there's still no difference. I knew Nakaba was terrible when, despite the multiple powerups, when King and Diane could do nothing against Cusack and Chandler I knew this series was garbage. Diane and King were a good chunk of the series. For them to be getting washed in the final arc was dumbfounding. Even after being trained by the best of the Giants and Fairy Clans. Trash writing.
The only good thing about this series is the art. The art is phenomenal. There are moments that are truly breathtaking. I'd honestly read the series again because the art is truly beautiful. Fuck this series though.

I watched the 1st season and had no interest to keep up with the series. Whatever happened to Magi? Do people still like that series?
ReplyDeleteThe manga for Magi ended back in 2017 and a third season of the anime has yet to be announced.
DeleteI don't know what's wrong with Meliodas maybe if you watched the series you'd change your mind he's a good guy and went through a lot! It's not that easy to let go of your past and accept fate but he did it. The characters don't suck maybe if you stopped complaining about the characters and think what is the story really about you'd enjoy the story A LOT more than you do now. Each if the characters play a specific role to make the story the way it is without them the story would be a piece of shit with no plot.
ReplyDeleteThe art makes literally everyone look like they have dwarfism. It’s garbage.
