Kevin Trench always wanted to be a doctor and that's what he did. One day he saw a man in a costume, that looked a lot like Spawn's, be murdered by a group of what looked like terrorist. Breaking the code of blackness he ran to the danger instead of away. He didn't take out the terrorists either. He just grabbed the costume. He also saw that the man who was murdered happened to look like an older version of himself.
He took the costume to an isolated island away from civilizations. He had gone crazy from seeing himself die and believed that if he didn't put on the suit he would never become a hero, he would never go home and he would never die. Yes, he believed not wearing the suit and living on an uninhabited island would lead to immortality, like Spawn. A criminal named Alberto, just Alberto, washed up on the island and stole one of the gloves after Kevin nursed him back to health. Kevin dealt with hm and decided it was his fate to wear the suit and die so he left the island.
After he returned to New York he went to war with the Maximum Carnage Gang. A gang that purposely injured civilians in their crimes. He became allied with many heroes in the city through his actions. He begin coming across villains who wore costumes similar to his own. He began taking pieces of their costumes and using them to give his own costume more abilities.
Eventually he starts borderline stalking an ex-girlfriend who was working for Morelle Pharmaceuticals. He discovered the CEO was working on nanotech experiments on his own son. Kevin resolved to stop him and managed to reunite with his former roommate who was operating as Cardiac at the time. When Cardiac had completed his mission Kevin continued his pursuit.
Stuff gets weird at this point so follow me and hope you don't get lost like I did. Kevin goes to the space station owned by Morelle. At this point Morelle sends two assassins to kill Kevin in the past. Because Morelle has a space station and access to a time portal. However, the fusture version of Morelle's son Justin comes to the present in a version of Kevin's suit. Future Justin kills his father and explains his father would go on to destroy half of North America. Together they destroy the space station.
It turns out Justin is the son of Morelle and Kevin's ex. Justin got some robotic arms and Kevin is glad to see them happy from afar. At this point it's revealed he kept some of the time travel tech. He goes back in time to warn past Kevin about the two assassins. However future Kevin which is really present Kevin gets into a fight with the two assassins from the present while they're in the past. The two were going to kill past Kevin in a terrorist attack they were planning. He's murdered byt the two and past Kevin finds the suit and restarts the time loop.
Now, things get even more weird. The editorial staff forgot he was dead so he ended up "surviving" somehow and was murdered while protecting innocent people during a game that saw metahumans hunting metahumans for points.
Now things get messed up and you should not accept any of this stuff as real. Just forget it happened. Don't read beyond this.
So, they brought Kevin back to life for a She-Hulk series. He's a doctor and is semi-retired from his days as Nightwatch. He goes to Jen's office where she is working on a case called The Blue File. Kevin brings her other retired D-List heroes and she increases her client base keeping her away from The Blue File. Eventually she realizes he's keeping her from it.
It's revealed that Kevin has been a villain Nighteater this whole time and the file is the only proof. He had everyone's mind's erased so they would believe that he's a hero. But, there's no actual proof he's a villain just this file that says he is and he's never actually done any criminal acts. She filed a civil suit, not a criminal case, but civil. The Blue File turns out to be a single document that one guy from North Dakota sent to Jen after the police and everyone else laughed at him when he tried to tell people Kevin was a villain.
Somehow with no proof Kevin is guilty of being a criminal. Yeah, he was found guilty in a civil trial. Don't ask me how. Then he was sent to prison, with no proof other than the fact that he defended himself after she called The Defenders to attack him, with a civil trial. Not a criminal trial. He hasn't been seen since. So there's a story about how a black superhero ended up in prison after dying twice for no good reason.
