Green Blood is a Seinen manga that revolves around a man named Brad Burns who lives in the 5 Boroughs of New York in the year of 1865. He is apart of a gang called the Grave Diggers and is known as the Grim Reaper. His job is an assassin who takes on jobs from anyone but he is still under the control of the Grave Diggers. He has a younger brother named Luke who works a steady paying job working at the docks of New York. I say steady paying but he is basically working for a few cents an hour. At the same time this was back in the day where 50 was a lot of money. It pay for their living and food but not much else.
The plot of the manga is all of the crime that takes place in the 5 boroughs or star of New York. It then shifts to the boys trying to find and kill their father Edward King who, with Gene McDowell, started the Grave Diggers. The manga is only 49 chapters long so don't expect a lot of traveling to reach the goal. Now let me explain the characters. Brad is the older big brother who would do anything for Luke. That even means killing countless people which he does all throughout the series. He seems cold but during these times so would anyone. Luke is the more responsible brother with morals. Their mother is dead and there father is the slimiest person in the manga. He killed their mother and left them to just die. All he cares about is money and himself.
This is a more down to earth story by which I mean the characters are normal people. All the fighting is done with fist, weapons, and guns. Its basically almost like an outlaw type of setting. There is a lot of gorey moments because well it is a seinen and the same time it revolves around killing for one's own survival. They live in the slums so its either work do death, join a gang, or become a prostitute. The best job would be to join a gang because you get money and also the police are scared of you. The most safe job is the working like a slave down at the docks or finding a decent job at a shop. For women the best job for a decent living is selling your body. This manga is truly dark but is a valid representation of ow life used to be and still is.
You are looking for a more mature manga then here you go. I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. I can't really rank the manga because it depends on how perceive this series. If you were looking for a crazy series like One Piece or Hunter X Hunter than you won't like this that much. But if you want a more character driven and down to earth manga than this is for you. All I can say is that I do recommend it because it is a great read. It may not be long but Its enjoyable.
